DART – DeSoto-Arcadia Regional Transit

DART is Arcadia’s public transit system, providing transportation to jobs, shopping, medical, and other services throughout the day. The service operates Monday through Saturday, from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. The service is a flag system that can make pick-ups and drop-offs at any point along the route. Also, individuals who are functionally unable to board the bus along the regular route may request to board and deboard the bus within ¾ of a mile off the published route. Reservations for route deviations are required in advance.

For older adults (60+) in Glades and Hendry Counties, Hope Connections provides transportation to hot meals, and activities at senior centers located in Clewiston and Moore Haven, as well as assistance and delivery of groceries and prescriptions. Okeechobee County Veteran’s Services – VA Van

For eligible veterans, Okeechobee County provides free transportation to and from medical appointments at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center. To learn more about the VA van service and schedule a ride, please call Okeechobee County Veterans’ Services.

Medicaid Transportation

Medicaid will provide for non-emergency transportation services for a Medicaid eligible recipient who has no other means of transportation to a Medicaid covered service. Here are some examples of where Medicaid will transport using non-emergency transportation services: Doctor Appointments; Dental Appointments; Mental Health Appointments; To receive Dialysis Services; To receive services at a Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) Center. The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) operates a fleet of vehicles around the country to provide free transportation to VA medical facilities for injured and ill veterans and can connect you with the best option based on your needs.

Veteran Services

The Disabled American Veterans (DAV), in association with Bay Pines VA Medical Center, provides free transportation to St. Petersburg VAMC, Lee County VA Healthcare, and Bradenton. The transportation service is available to veterans who have VAMC scheduled appointments between the hours of 8 and 11 a.m. Requests for rides must be made two weeks in advance. Heartland Rides is a mobility information resource to connect residents of DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, and Okeechobee counties with available transportation options. Heartland Rides does not provide or pay for any transportation. Heartland Rides was created in 2020 in partnership with the Central Florida Regional Planning Council (CFRPC), Heartland Regional Transportation Planning Organization (HRTPO), and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to help meet the mobility needs of the Heartland Region.

Heartland Rides provides a listing of ride options based on your starting location, trip purpose, and any specific needs you may have, such as a wheelchair accommodation or assistance to and from the vehicle.  Transportation options include public transit, non-emergency medical transportation, shared-ride services, and other specialized services. To arrange transportation, choose your provider and contact them directly.
